Tip! If you are trying new skills, make sure that you practice on some wood that has no value, like some scraps. You don't want to waste an expensive piece of wood before you know exactly what you are doing.
Scribe some concentric circles on to the disc at 1/2" intervals using a skew chisel. Position this center-finder over the end of your stock and adjust it until one of your circles is inscribed completely in a portion of the wood that is solid and usable. Using an awl or nail set, mark your center through the central hole in the disc.
Make use one of the beveled inner part of a pencil sharpener. If you mount it on a small shaft, you can use it in a drill. It a good tool for shaping smaller pieces. When it gets dull, just sharpen it on an emery cloth by running the drill on a slow speed.
Tip! Sometimes a little bit of glue is better than a clamp. Every woodworking shop should have a hot glue gun.
